Wachenzeller Dolomit (Dolomite)

Wachenzeller Dolomit is a Franconian dolomite. In the past, dolomite deposits were also quarried between Kelheim and Ingolstadt. This kind of dolomite was formed around 140 million years ago and is part of the Sponge lime facies which are secondarily dolomitised. Wachenzeller Dolomit is completely resistant against frost and de-icing salt – an exception among limestones. In addition to the usual surface treatments, it can be treated with flame. The bushhammered or flamed surface has a rustic look. Aside from that, Wachenzeller Dolomit has manifold appearances with surfaces from honed to polished and colors from grey-yellow to earth brown.
